Tools and Extensions I Use
Web Browser Extensions
I use Firefox as I find it more intuitive, and I've generally trended away from most Google products in the past couple years. I also use a few extensions to make my web expirience more smooth and private.
- Ublock Origin: THE BEST in adblock. Works wonderfully everywhere on the web.
- SponsorBlock: Sponsorships are annoying, of course. It's community maintained so it's easy and always good to block out sponsors yourself!
- Unhook: Lets you control what you see on YouTube. Can turn off homepage reccomendations, side-bar reccomendations, comments, and much more.
- Privacy Badger: I don't know much about this one, but it's very trusted and online privacy is important to me. According to eff.org, it "stops advertisers and trackers from secretly tracking where you go and what pages you look at on the web."
Web Tools
- Tineye: Great reverse image search tool.
- ACCOUNTKILLER: Helps you delete online accounts.
- W3Schools: Been using this to learn HTML/CSS, and as a general reasource to look up how to do certain things. They have articles, videos, and little quizzes.
- Proton: Variety of free privacy-centered services. I only use their email service, but it's been a very good expierence. No built-in ads like gmail and a much better sense of privacy.
Applications
- Obsidian: Best note-taking and general text application I've ever used. Has basic notes, temmplate-able daily notes, canvases that allow note inserts and images. Plugins allow basically any feature from Excalidraw integration to notecards for study. Open source! (I have plans to do a more in-depth tutoral and tour of Obsidian and how I personally find it useful.)
- Krita: Free drawing application with MANY features and plugin options. Also has an animation feature but I have not tested this, blender greasepaint may be a better option for open-source 2D animation software.
- GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program): Free image editing application with a similar interface to Krita. I believe they are based on the same GUI software, but that could be wrong. Either way, both are very intuitive after a brief tutorial article and some messing around! This software is also open source and has a wide variety of plugins/add-ons.
